Alternative Media

SRC Alternate Media Procedures

Alternate Media (e-text) involves converting instructional material into accessible formats (audio, Braille, large print, etc.) so that students with disabilities have equal access to their course materials.
Students must be approved for alternate media by their SRC Counselor.

1. Complete an orientation with the High-Tech Center Specialist after meeting with your SRC Counselor.

When you attend your orientation, please bring your textbook, syllabus, and proof of purchase for your textbook. Students requesting materials in alternate formats must own a physical copy of the textbook.

2. Submit your Alternate Media Request via AIM.

3. Check your email!

Processing time for Alternate Media will vary depending on the request. Production times may range from 3 to 10 working days.  Check your email regularly for confirmation that your media has been completed.

Note: If your textbook is an Open Education Resource (OER), please come into the SRC High Tech Center so we can show you how to upload your textbook into Kurzweil.

4. Access alternative media

Disability Services

Once your medium has been completed, your files will be available in Kurzweil, which can be found in the Disability Services title in MyCompton.

If you have any questions, comments, or concerns regarding your alternate media request, please email cseymour@compton.edu or call 310-900-1600, ext. 2405.
