Building a Healthier, Equitable Future in Compton
The Compton Community Health Professions Partnership (CCHPP) is a colation of schools, colleges, healthcare providers, and community orgainzations committed to developing the next generation of healthcare professionals from within our community. From middle school to medical school, we're creating seamless pathways that connect education, training, and employement in the healthcare field. Our goal is to help more of our neighbors to thrive in careers that improve the health of our city.
Why This Matters
Compton faces some of the most urgent health and workforce challenges in Los Angeles County. Our surrounding community is federally designated Medically Underserved Area and a Mental Health Professional Shortage Area. Rates of chronic disease, mental health concerns, and limited access to culturally competent care are among the highest in the region. At the same time, we face a shortage of over 1,000 open healthcare positions and too few opportunities for residents to prepare for and enter these careers.
CCHPP intends to change that. By aligning with K-12 education, higher education, and healthcare employers, we are:
- Encouraging early interest in health careers through workshops, mentorship, and hands-on healthcare field experiences.
- Educating our community about health disparities within the surrounding Compton Community.
- Expanding access to certificates, degrees, and clinical placements in high-demand healthcare fields within Compton.
- Connecting graduates to local jobs so that those who train here can attain careers serving the community they call home.
