CCCSE Osher Scholarship at Compton College

The California Community Colleges Scholarship Endowment (CCCSE) Osher Scholarship supports Compton College students with high financial need who are making progress toward their educational goals. The scholarship is funded through the Bernard Osher Foundation and administered through the Foundation for California Community Colleges.
  • Eligibility Requirements

To be considered for the Osher Scholarship at Compton College, students must:

    • Be enrolled at Compton College
    • Have completed at least 24 degree-applicable semester units by the time of the initial scholarship disbursement
    • Be enrolled in at least 6 units during the term of award, unless an approved reduced course load exception applies
    • Have a California College Promise Grant (CCPG) on file
    • Be making satisfactory progress toward a degree
    • Not exceed the program’s $4,800 cumulative lifetime Osher Scholarship limit

Transfer units from another college may be counted if they have been evaluated and accepted by Compton College as degree-applicable coursework.

  • Selection Criteria

The Osher Scholarship is a need-based scholarship, and financial need receives top priority in the selection process.

If the number of eligible students exceeds available funding, Compton College may prioritize students based on:

    • Highest financial need
    • Continued eligibility at the time of disbursement
    • Current enrollment level
    • Compliance with all program requirements

Compton College may use a student’s Student Aid Index (SAI) or other financial aid need indicators available through the financial aid application process to help rank eligible students by financial need.

Grades, GPA, and test scores are not used as selection criteria, provided the student is making satisfactory progress toward a degree.

  • Award Amounts

Award amounts are based on enrolled units at the time of disbursement and current program guidelines:

    • 12 or more units: up to $800 per semester
    • 9 to 11.99 units: up to $600 per semester
    • 6 to 8.99 units: up to $400 per semester

Students may receive up to $1,600 per academic year, with a $4,800 cumulative lifetime maximum across the California Community College system.

  • Allowable Use of Funds

Because Osher recipients must already have a California College Promise Grant, Osher Scholarship funds are intended to help cover educational expenses other than tuition and enrollment fees.

    Examples may include:

    • Textbooks
    • Lab fees
    • Uniforms
    • Tools
    • Required supplies
    • Other required educational equipment

  • Important Information

    • Meeting eligibility requirements does not guarantee an award
    • Awards are subject to funding availability
    • Eligibility may be reviewed again before disbursement
    • Students may be asked to confirm whether they have previously received an Osher Scholarship at another California community college
    • Scholarships may be renewed if the student continues to meet all eligibility requirements and remains within the lifetime maximum
    • Selected Osher Scholars may be asked to submit a thank-you letter acknowledging the support of the Osher Foundation

  • Additional Notice

Compton College administers the Osher Scholarship in accordance with statewide program guidelines established by the Foundation for California Community Colleges and the Bernard Osher Foundation. Program requirements, award amounts, and procedures are subject to change based on updated guidance.
