Meet Your FYE Counselor:
- Kenia Guerrero (she/her/ella) - Adjunct Counselor, First Year Experience
- Email: kguerrero4@compton.edu
- Location: Student Services Building (SSB) - 260
About Kenia: "As a
first-generation Latina and formerly undocumented student, I am a proud
daughter of Mexican immigrants and a
product of the California Community College system. Born in Ensenada, Baja California and raised in City Heights, San Diego, my educational
journey began at San Diego Mesa College and later continued at Cuyamaca College, where
I participated in collegiate athletics. During a challenging time in my life, the
advocacy and support of my coaches encouraged me to stay on the team, an experience
that transformed my path and helped me recognize my purpose as an undocumented woman
pursuing higher education. I went on to
earn my Associate Degree for Transfer in Social and Behavioral Sciences before transferring to San Diego State University, where I
completed my Bachelor of Arts in Child Development and later returned to earn my
Master of Education in Educational Counseling. With the goal of serving students in the community college system, I have worked
as an outreach community liaison, building partnerships and supporting students and
families across San Diego communities. As the
oldest of five siblings, all boys, I am
the first in my family, after three generations, to graduate from high school, complete
college, and continue into graduate education. Outside of work, I enjoy listening to BTS and J. Cole, and I am deeply committed
to empowering students through advocacy, care, and culturally responsive support."
