Compton College Library needs new bookmarks to help promote it as a place that embraces
diversity, nurtures literacy, and drives success. Please help us out with by designing
a bookmark!
Currently enrolled Compton College students are invited to submit a design! Limit
one design per student. Designs submitted before contest starts or after contest ends will not be considered.
First, second, and third place will receive CASH PRIZES.
First Place: $125
Second Place: $75
Third Place: $50
Fourth and fifth place will receive COLLEGE-BRANDED PRIZES.
The top five designs will also be reproduced as PRINTED BOOKMARKS to promote Compton
College Library's resources and services, with the student’s name and design prominently
featured on each bookmark.
A special Library's Choice winner chosen by Library staff will receive a $100 BOOKSTORE
GIFT CARD.
Special Thanks Prizes for this contest are possible due to patronage from our Compton College community.
Cash prizes are provided by Interim Vice-President of Human Resources Barbara Perez,
while fourth and fifth place prizes are provided by the Student Equity and Basic Needs
department and EOPS/CARE. Library's Choice prize provided by the Library.
RULES
Eligibility Currently enrolled Compton College students are eligible to participate. Students
who are also employed as classified/certificated employees of Compton College are
NOT eligible. However, Federal Work Study students are excluded from this and may
enter the contest.
Criteria for Bookmark Design Please follow these criteria carefully to prevent disqualification and/or delays!
THEME - Create a bookmark design based on the themes of LITERACY, DIVERSITY, and SUCCESS.
DIMENSIONS & ELEMENTS - The design must be within two inches by seven inches, include
additional a quarter inch image bleed with crop marks, display student signature,
and use CMYK color mode.
FILE FORMAT - Prepare the design as a file saved in .pdf format.
How to Submit Your Design Email the file to Library@compton.edu with the subject line "Bookmark Design Contest"
between March 27 and April 21, 2023. In the body of your email, include your first
and last name and your Compton College student ID number. This information is required
so winners can be contacted and have identities verified for prize pickup.
Copyright Information Students are responsible for submitting original work. Derivative artwork from other
licensed or copyrighted works are NOT allowed and will be disqualified. Compton College
is not liable for copyright violations committed by students. All design submissions
are the intellectual property of the creating student.
JUDGING
Judging will be comprised of two rounds and one special round, with winners determined
by tallied votes. The first round is judged by a jury panel comprised of librarians and art faculty,
who will evaluate eligible submissions based on the following criteria:

Originality
Composition
Visual impact
The panel will vote for the top five designs, which will be announced April 25.
The second round is judged by Compton College students, faculty, and staff, who will
be invited to vote for their favorite designs either in person at the Circulation
Desk inside the Library or through the online form. This round will take place April
25-29, 2023.
A special round of judging will take place simultaneous to the second round, where
all Library staff will vote for their favorite design to be awarded Library's Choice.
VOTING
Choose your favorite design from the top five, which will be available to view April
25. The designs will be displayed on this page, on the contest's Google Site, and on the Library's Canvas page.
OPTION 1: Vote In-Person Visit the Library and go to the Circulation Desk to request and fill out the paper
voting slip.
OPTION 2: Vote Online Click on Vote Online to submit your online vote. Voting form will be open to accept responses April 25-29, 2023. You may only vote once.
DATES & DEADLINES
March 27 - Contest open for submissions; designs submitted BEFORE contest starts will
not be considered. April 21 - Last day for submissions; designs submitted AFTER contest ends will not
be considered. April 24 - First round of judging by jury panel. April 25-29 - Second round of judging, open to Compton College students, faculty,
and staff. April 25-29 - Special round of judging by Library staff. May 2 - Winners announced! Check back here, on the contest's Google Site, and on the
Library's Canvas page. Winners will also be emailed directly the Library. May 27 - Last day to pick up prizes. Must be picked up from Circulation Desk inside
the Library by 1 p.m. No shows forfeit prizes.
