Fine Arts, Communication and Humanities - Guided Pathway Division

The Spanish degree provides the student with proficiency in speaking, reading, writing, and understanding Spanish and will gain knowledge of Spanish and Spanish-American culture. The student will be able to communicate in Spanish, write formal compositions, and read the texts of Spanish and Spanish American authors, all at the Intermediate- Mid level of competency. Competencies will be assessed throughout the language sequence with written and oral exams. This major provides opportunities for continued advanced learning of Spanish and prepares students to transfer and major in Spanish.

Program Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the degree program, students will be able to:

  • Communicate using culturally appropriate skills (conversation, reading, writing) in interpersonal, interpretative, and presentational settings.
  • Demonstrate competence in an ever-increasing complexity of social, cultural and academic topics that will facilitate entry into upper division university programs.
  • Real world communication skills combined with culturally appropriate use of lexicon and syntax necessary for employment where bilingual and multicultural abilities are beneficial.
