President/CEO Message

September 23, 2021

Happy Thursday, over 130 faculty, Classified staff, and managers/supervisors joined me on Tuesday, September 21, 2021, for my one-hour Tartar Talks. I reviewed the Compton College 2021-2022 Goals and my 2021-2022 Priorities. I provided an overview of our FTES Hold-Harmless Provision and an accreditation update and then opened the virtual meeting for questions. Click here to view my September 21, 2021 presentation. During my presentation, I discussed how community college was previously funded by the state of California, which is outlined in Senate Bill 361 - Community colleges: funding and how we are currently funded under the Student-Centered Funding Formula. Once again, thank you to everyone who attended the virtual forum, and the next Tartar Talks is scheduled for Tuesday, November 23, 2021, at 1:00 p.m.

I also wanted to share that we are purchasing a lot of networking, Wi-Fi, A/V, and computer lab equipment for the new Instructional Building 2 and the Student Services Building. My primary concern is that due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many lab computers are among the most stranded equipment affected by the global chip crisis. We currently don't have an update from Hewlett Packard when the lab computers are scheduled to be delivered. If the computer lab equipment is not available, the Informational Technology Services Department will provide carts with laptops in the Instructional Building 2 and the Student Services Building.

The President/CEO Message - September 23, 2021, includes COVID-19 information and other campus-related updates.

Summer Enrichment Program Proposals

The Vice President of Academic Affairs, Sheri Berger, emailed faculty, Classified staff, and managers yesterday about the process for submitting proposals for Summer Enrichment Activities for summer 2022. As mentioned during Professional Development Day as well as the President/CEO Message - August 19, 2021, $100,000 has been allocated for faculty and departments to submit proposals to offer a summer program. The deadline to submit proposals is Friday, November 19, 2021. The purpose of summer enrichment activities is to engage K-12 students on the Compton College campus. These activities will build lifelong connections to the College. Additionally, these activities provide access to the community we serve.

To submit proposals, please use the link to the proposal form at https://forms.office.com/r/xUxGJTxTFr. The form will ask for the name of the proposed activity, basic program information including a description, program length, and target audience, the connection to Compton College 2024 strategic initiatives, and the proposed budget, including personnel, supplies, contracts, etc.

Final Thoughts

A 'Community Letter" will be mailed to all district residents in early October from the Compton CCD Board of Trustees. They are asking our community to continue their support of the College by recommending Compton College to their friends and family. Click here to view a draft of the letter, which includes QR Codes for readers to scan for more information. The message from the Board members will be printed in English and Spanish.

Please be safe and have a fantastic Friday.

Sincerely,
