President/CEO Message

October 12, 2020

Campus Community,

Today, I broke every one of Chief Facilities Officer Linda Owens’ rules related to visiting Compton College construction sites. I forgot my hardhat and construction vest when I visited Instructional Building 1 and Instructional Building 2 construction sites. Luckily, the construction management firm provided me with those items upon my arrival. It was amazing to visit the construction sites and witness the pace of these construction projects. As I think about the 2021-2022 academic year, I realize we will have three new construction projects completed at Compton College, which is truly unique. Not to mention the other construction projects that have been completed since March of 2014. The President/CEO Message - October 12, 2020, includes COVID-19 information and other campus-related updates.

Tartar Success Institute 2.0

On October 9, 2020, I had the opportunity to participate in the Compton College Tartar Success Institute 2.0. Special thanks to our Guided Pathways Tri-Chairs and the planning committee for organizing a fantastic event. The PowerPoint presentation from the Tartar Success Institute 2.0 is available here.  As mentioned in the President/CEO Message - October 8, 2020, I encourage you to visit the Compton College Institutional Effectiveness webpage. I am proud to share with you two new data dashboards that were developed by Institutional Effectiveness:

Over the past week, I heard many concerns about the data you are looking for to support the student experience.  However, we should be mindful as we continue to explore the student experience using data to answer the following questions:

  1. What do we know and understand about the student experience?
  2. Do we understand why the student experience is happening?
  3. What are the potential actions we could take to impact the student experience positively?
  4. After the actions have been implemented, how do we know it is changing the student experience?

We will continue to have conversations and work with you to ensure you have access to data and promptly utilize it to support the student experience.
