President/CEO Message

November 18, 2021

Campus Community,

Another week completed the fall 2021 semester, and winter/spring 2022 registration has begun. It is critical we remind the students in our classes and in our programs/departments to register now for the upcoming winter term and the spring semester. The enrollment for winter is very encouraging; however, we need to continue our recruitment and retention efforts for the upcoming term. Also, we must remind students about the Compton College student vaccination requirement.

This week the Compton Community College District and the Compton Community College Federation of Employees, Classified Unit, Local 3486A, finalized a Tentative Agreement on a new contract for the period of July 1, 2020, through June 30, 2023. The plan is for the Tentative Agreement to be presented to the Compton Community College District Board of Trustees at their December 2021 board meeting, with my recommendation for approval. A special thank you to all that were involved in the negotiations process.

On November 17, 2021, the nonpartisan Legislative Analyst's Office (LAO) released the annual publication, California's Fiscal Outlook, including the revenue summaries for the first quarter of the fiscal year as well as a five-year fiscal forecast. The 2022-2023 Fiscal Outlook for Schools and Community Colleges is available here. The good news is the state revenue is ahead of the 2022 California Budget Act assumptions. In total, the LAO estimate nearly $20 billion may be available to allocate in the upcoming budget cycle to Schools and Community Colleges. We will continue to monitor the development of the 2022-2023 California State Budget.

Final Thoughts

This week, I participated in the California Guided Pathways Project 2.0 Virtual Institute, an excellent opportunity to learn how colleges implement and utilize guided pathways to address racial equity. A special thank you to the Compton College employees who are also participating in the virtual institute.

In October 2021, the Community College Research Center at Teachers College, Columbia University, released the following reports, which might interest many of you.

In closing, thank you to everyone who reached out to me regarding the special gift that was sent to all Compton College full-time faculty, Classified staff, and managers/supervisors. I hope everyone enjoys their treats.

Please have a fantastic Friday and a great weekend. Next week is a short week due to the Thanksgiving holiday break.

Sincerely,
