In compliance with Sec. 18004(a)(1) of the 2020 CARES Act, Compton College posts the following statements. This data reflects the distribution of Higher Education Emergency Relief Grants to students in the quarter ending December 31, 2023:

Compton College signed and returned to the U.S. Department of Education the Certification and Agreement described in the aforementioned legislation. Compton College has used and intends to use no less than 50 percent of the funds received to provide Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students.

Compton College identified which students receive Emergency Financial Aid Grants and how much they would receive in the following way: Students who are/were enrolled in an institution of higher education during the COVID-19 pandemic are eligible for emergency financial aid grants from the HEERF regardless of whether they completed FAFSA/are eligible for Title IV. This can include international students-citizens, permanent residents, refugees, asylum seekers, DACA recipients, other DREAMers/other undocumented students. In addition, Compton College allocated a certain amount each semester and divided that by the number of students who qualified for the grant at that time to determine the amount each student would receive.
Compton College provided the following instructions, directions, or guidance to students concerning the Emergency Financial Aid Grants: Students who are/were enrolled in an institution of higher education during the COVID-19 pandemic are eligible for emergency financial aid grants from the HEERF regardless of whether they completed FAFSA/are eligible for Title IV. This can include international students-citizens, permanent residents, refugees, asylum seekers, DACA recipients, other DREAMers/other undocumented students.

What is HEERF?

As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, on March 27, 2020, Congress passed the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES Act). This bill allocated $2.2 trillion to provide fast and direct economic relief to those negatively affected by the pandemic. Of this $2.2 trillion, approximately $14 billion was allotted to the Office of Post-Secondary Education (OPE) as the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF).

COMPTON COLLEGE QUARTERLY REPORTS

The Compton College Financial Aid Office has disbursed the following funds on behalf of the CARES Act Grant Program:

$485,800.00 in CARES Act funds were disbursed to 1,389 students for Spring 2020. There was a total of 5,543 potentially eligible students.
$180,960.00 in CARES Act funds were disbursed to 580 students for Summer 2020. There was a total of 2,551 potentially eligible students.
$522,200.00 in CARES Act funds were disbursed to 1272 students for Fall 2020. There was a total of 4,668 potentially eligible students.
$48,000.00 in CARES Act funds were disbursed to 160 students for Winter 2021. There was a total of 1,299 potentially eligible students.
$300,881.00 in CARES Act funds were disbursed to 576 students for Spring 2021. There was a total of 4,122 potentially eligible students.
$496,729.00 in HEERF II funds were disbursed to 1979 students for Spring 2021. There was a total of 4,122 potentially eligible students.
$147,602.00 in HEERF II funds were disbursed to 811 students for Summer 2021. There was a total of 2,219 potentially eligible students.

Q: What is the award amount?
A: The financial aid office at your college or career school will determine how much financial aid you are eligible to receive. Your award amount depends on the following: your Expected Family Contribution, your year in school, your enrollment status, and your cost of attendance at the school you will be attending.

Q: Is it too late to apply for financial aid?
A: The FAFSA form must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. Central time (CT) on June 30, 2023. Any corrections or updates must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. CT on Sept. 10, 2023.

Q: Do I have to repay Emergency funds if I drop classes?
A: Students are not required to repay Emergency funds once it has been determined that they are eligible to receive them at the time of disbursement.

Q: How will I receive the Emergency funds?
A: Students will receive their Emergency funds via direct deposit. They have the option to set up direct deposit through Bank Mobile or their If they have not set up direct deposit, they will receive their funds by paper check through the mail.

Q: How may students use their emergency financial aid grants?
A: Students determine how they would like to use their emergency financial aid grant within the permissible uses. These can include attendance or emergency costs caused by COVID-19, i.e., food, tuition, housing, childcare, or health care (including mental health care).

Q: Do institutions include the amount of a HEERF student emergency financial aid grant in students' financial aid award packages?
A: No, they do not. The emergency financial aid grants are separate funds from students' financial aid packages.
