Alumna Spotlight: Denisse Juarez

Although Denisse Juarez was accepted to California State University, Northridge after graduating from Lynwood High School in 2013, cost and distance were prohibitive and she had to consider other options. “Luckily, I found a true community at El Camino College Compton Center and ended up feeling really comfortable there,” said Juarez. “The many resources, and especially the Transfer Center, helped me transition from high school to college, guided me into the proper classes, and helped me explore four-year universities.”

Juarez recently graduated from ECC Compton Center with an associate degree and is headed to the University of California, Merced this fall to major in psychology. After earning her bachelor’s degree she plans to move into forensics and pursue law school.

Juarez says she is excited to be attending a UC school and the Transfer Center helped her get there. “I literally went to the Transfer Center every week,” she said. “There’s not one week where I didn’t see my counselors; they helped me so much! Also, the professors and all the people on campus are just so welcoming.”

ECC Compton Center offers a variety of services, programs and activities to help students put a successful transfer plan into action. The Transfer Center is the ultimate resource for making a smooth transition to any four-year college or university.

Juarez encourages every student to seek out a counselor they connect with that can help guide them in their academic journeys. “The counselors at Compton Center truly want you to succeed,” she said. “They helped me so much. They are the ones answering your questions and keeping you calm and addressing your concerns.
