Fall 2016 Nursing Pinning Ceremony

ECC Compton Center will honor 38 students graduating with an associate of science degree in nursing at a pinning ceremony on December 15. The Nursing Pinning Ceremony is scheduled to take place at 6:00 p.m. in the ECC Compton Center gymnasium with a reception immediately following in the foyer. For the list of graduates, click here

Now Accepting Applications for Summer and Fall 2017

All new students qualify for early registration if they complete the four Steps to Enroll by April 30, 2017. For local high school seniors, priority registration is available to students who will graduate in 2017 and reside within the Compton Community College District (Centennial High, Compton Senior High, Dominguez High, King/Drew Medical Magnet, Locke (Alain Leroy) High, Lynwood High, Paramount High).

     APPLY – New students must complete an application.
     PREPARE – All new students must participate in an orientation session.
     TEST – Assessment testing must be completed prior to registering for classes.
     PLAN – Students must meet with a counselor prior to registration to develop an educational plan.

First Year Experience Program Update

The First Year Experience program at ECC Compton Center is designed for students who are attending college for the first time. The FYE program is composed of four learning communities that are linked with a common theme. One of which is an accelerated cohort learning community that is ECC Compton Center’s second cohort of all-males designed to address the low enrollment and retention of males at Compton Center. Associated Student Body Council Leads Student Life Activities

The Associated Student Body officers and commissioners coordinate student activities; help determine how ASB funds will be allocated; and represent student views on important ECC Compton Center issues. ASB holds weekly meetings, which are open to all ECC Compton Center students. Read more...

Students Succeed in Honors Transfer Program

At the 2016 Commencement Ceremony, El Camino College Compton Center celebrated the first three honors students to complete the new Honors Transfer Program (HTP). Aidee Nunez-Jimenez, Lluvia Lastra-Morales, and Deyanira Cardenas-Herrera all graduated in May 2016 with the HTP designation. Read more...

Seats Available in Cosmetology for Spring 2017 Semester

El Camino College Compton Center launched a Cosmetology program this fall for students interested in the beauty and wellness industry to earn a two-year degree and various certificates. Those who enroll in the program will receive training in cosmetology to become a hairstylist and provide beauty services such as shampooing, cutting, coloring and styling hair. Read more...

Transfer Fair Draws More Than 400 Students

The annual ECC Compton Center Transfer Fair in November had an excellent turnout with a total of 344 Compton Center students and 64 students from high schools in the Compton Unified School District participating. Representatives from 40 colleges and universities interacted with students and provided information regarding transfer opportunities. In addition, nine departments from ECC Compton Center participated in the resource fair. Students looking to transfer were invited to walk from table to table and gather information from the colleges/universities they have interest in attending, as well as receive information on the many student services available at Compton Center.


2017 Comprehensive Master Plan

A five-year ECC Compton Center/Future Compton College Comprehensive Master Plan for 2017-2022 has been in development since spring 2016. The Comprehensive Master Plan includes Educational, Facilities, Technology, and Staffing Plans.

The strategic goals for the 2017 Comprehensive Master Plan include:

  1. Access and Completion - Improve enrollment, retention, and completion rates for our students.
  2. Student Success - Support the success of all students to meet their educational and career goals.
  3. Innovation - Support student success through the use of technology.
  4. Workforce Development - Offer excellent programs that lead to degrees and certificates in allied health, and technical fields.
  5. Partnerships - Establish partnerships in the community, and with local K-12 schools.

The next steps in the completion of the 2017 Comprehensive Master Plan include:

  1. Current draft of the 2017 Compton Center/Future Compton College Comprehensive Master Plan is in the final editing phase.
  2. Request approval of the El Camino College Academic Senate on the Educational Master Plan at their December 2016 meeting.
  3. Finalize the ECC Compton Center/Future Compton College Technology Plan and prepare for Compton District Board Approval at the December 2016 meeting.
  4. Finalize the ECC Compton Center/Future Compton College Staffing Plan and prepare for Compton District Board Approval at the February 2017 meeting.

Accreditation Update

The ECC Compton Center Candidacy Application and Self-Evaluation Report are due to the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC) by January 6, 2017. The ACCJC External Evaluation Team visit is scheduled for Monday, March 6, through Thursday, March 9, 2017. Read more...

Provisional Board of Trustee Member Appointed

The Compton Community College District (CCCD) Board of Trustees unanimously appointed Nicole J. Jones as a provisional board of trustee member for Trustee Area 2 at a special board meeting held on October 26. Pursuant to Education Code 5091(a) (1), the provisional appointment is effective November 1, 2016 through the next regularly scheduled election for the CCCD Board of Trustees, which will be held on November 7, 2017. Music Building Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting

A Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the renovated Music Building is scheduled for this afternoon at 3:00 p.m. The $3 million renovation project funded by the Compton District Measure CC includes upgrades to the 220-seat Little Theater and restrooms, as well as the addition of ramps for ADA accessibility. This event is open to the public and parking will be available in Lot A.
