Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act
The CARES Act establishes the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund, which includes flexible funding to help institutions with immediate needs related to coronavirus. Compton College will be receiving 2.5 million dollars in one-time funding to defray expenses such as lost revenue and technology costs associated with transitioning to alternative academic instruction. Fifty percent of that money must be used to provide direct emergency aid to students, including grants for food, housing, course materials, technology, healthcare, and child care. Compton College is developing a spending plan for the use of relief funding. The draft spending plan will be shared and discussed at the next Compton College Planning and Budget Committee meeting on Tuesday, April 28, 2020.
