CCCD Welcomes New Managers

The Compton Community College District is pleased to announce the appointment of Nelly Alvarado as director of enrollment services and Lynell Wiggins as director of adult education and workforce development at Compton College.

Nelly Alvarado, Director of Enrollment Services
As director of enrollment services, Alvarado provides leadership and oversight for the operations/activities relating to recruitment/outreach, the welcome center, the transfer/career center, new student welcome day, first year experience learning communities, and assigned state/federally categorically funded programs. She also provides leadership to the campus in the areas of: recruitment/outreach, development of relationships with local feeder high schools/community organizations, the successful transition of new students into college, matriculation, transfer/career programs, evaluation of program effectiveness, and recommending methods for continuous improvement of enrollment management on campus.

Beginning in 2015, Alvarado served as the interim director of enrollment services at Compton Center. Prior to that position, she was the program manager for the Upward Bound Math and Science program helping to increase graduation rates and college acceptance for local high school students. She has also worked as a program specialist for Extended Opportunities Programs and Services and Cooperative Agencies Resources for Education (EOPS/CARE). Alvarado's previous work experience includes program coordinator in the Center for Educational Partnerships at the University of California, Irvine.

Alvarado earned her doctorate in education degree from the University of California, Los Angeles. She earned a Master of Public Administration (MPA) degree from California State University Long Beach, and bachelor's degrees in psychology and social behavior and criminology law and society from the University of California, Irvine.

Lynell Wiggins, Director of Adult Education and Workforce Development
As director of adult education and workforce development, Wiggins will provide leadership and direction for workforce and career development and adult education programs at Compton College. He will coordinate with select instructional programs and support services that meet the educational and training needs of students and adult learners, ultimately to help them transition successfully to postsecondary education and the workforce.

Prior to joining Compton College, Wiggins was the vocational dean and Strong Workforce Program technical assistance provider for the California Community Colleges Chancellor's Office. He provided statewide leadership for the implementation of the Board of Governor's Strong Workforce Task Force recommendations for system-wide reform of workforce development and career training and education. He has also previously served as career and technical education counselor at Pasadena City College, adjunct counselor and athletic program coordinator at Cerritos College, and student affairs officer at the University of California, Irvine, and assistant director for the Multicultural Summer Institute at Occidental College.

Wiggins earned his master's degree in education and college student affairs and a bachelor's degree in psychology, both from Azusa Pacific University.
