Student Success

Summer and Fall 2015 Application Period is Currently Underway

Apply now!Applications for summer and fall 2015 are now being accepted online. All new students are encouraged to begin the four steps to enroll at ECC Compton Center as soon as possible:

APPLY – New and returning students must complete an application.

PREPARE – All new students must participate in an orientation session and are encouraged to take practice placement tests.

TEST – Assessment testing must be completed prior to registering for classes.

PLAN – Students must see a counselor prior to registration to develop an education plan.
In addition, priority registration is available to high school graduates living within the Compton Community College District who complete the four steps by March 31, 2015. For more information, go to http://www.compton.edu/priority-registration.aspx.

Alumni Spotlight: Bernitha Gales Earns Doctorate While Continuing Career

Long-time Compton resident Bernitha Gales is proof that it is never too late for working adults to attend college in pursuit of advanced degrees. The 2008 El Camino College Compton Center graduate went on to earn her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education in 2010 from the University of Southern California (USC) and in 2012, she received a doctorate in linguistics, also from USC. Tartar Football and Soccer Student-Athletes Honored

Tartar FootballEl Camino College Compton Center wrapped up the fall sports season with special recognition for several student-athletes from the Tartar football and soccer programs who were named to the Southern California Football Association (SCFA) and California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) teams.

The Tartar football team had three sophomore student-athletes recognized by the CCCAA Southern California Football Association American Division All-Mountain League. Maurice Simmons, middle linebacker, and Jeremiah Rideaux, punter, were honored as first team selections.  Brandon Ward, cornerback, was named to the second team. Get Aerospace Fastener Manufacturing Training at ECC Compton Center

FastenerThe Career and Technical Education Division (CTE) at El Camino College Compton Center is offering students and working adults the chance to receive industrial job training through its Aerospace Fastener Manufacturing program. CCCD Announces Board of Trustees Officers for 2015

The Compton Community College District (CCCD) Board of Trustees elected officers for 2015 during its annual organizational meeting held on Dec. 16, 2014. Leslie Irving, Trustee Area 2, was elected president; Sonia Lopez, Trustee Area 3, was elected vice president; and Andres Ramos, Trustee Area 1, will serve as clerk. The additional members of the Board are LoWanda Green, Trustee Area 5; and Deborah LeBlanc, Trustee Area 4.

Compton Community College District Board of Trustees members are responsible for attending all Board meetings and key El Camino College Compton Center events, as well as participating in trustee education programs. The board serves the Compton Community College District as an advisory panel.

CCCD Board Meeting Scheduled for February 17

The next meeting of the Compton Community College District Board of Trustees is scheduled for Tuesday, February 17, at 5:00 p.m. in the Board Room at 1111 E. Artesia Boulevard, Compton, CA 90221.

All regular session Board meetings are open to the public. Closed session begins at 4:00 p.m.

CCCD PresentationThe El Camino College Public Relations and Marketing Department was recently honored with two first-place awards from the National Council for Marketing and Public Relations (NCMPR) at its regional conference.

The NCMPR Medallion Awards recognize outstanding achievement in communications at community and technical colleges. El Camino College Compton Center’s online newsletter, “The Messenger,” took top honors in the electronic newsletter category.
