Library Databases

These are the online databases which the library subscribes to for the students of El Camino College Compton Community Educational Center. To access any of them, please select the database link by clicking the blue title. For certain databases (or if you are connecting from off-campus), a prompt will ask for a user name and password. The Reference Librarian on campus has a list of user names and passwords. You must show your student ID to get the list.

Academic Search Premier (EBSCO)
Full text for more than 4,600 journals, (3,900 peer-reviewed).

African-American History Online (Facts On File)
Extensive hyper-linked entries, including photographs, maps, and over 70 videos, span more than 500 years of African-American history, and cover topics such as affirmative action, Africa, black nationalism, civil rights, emancipation, Harlem Renaissance, leaders, religion, slave living conditions and liberation strategies, sports, visual arts, and more.

American History Online (Facts On File) A comprehensive and authoritative reference to the most important individuals, events, and topics in United States history. This invaluable reference source is organized by content type, topic, era, and activity as well as by the National Standards for U.S. History. Thousands of fully hyper-linked entries allow users to follow a topic to related biographies, primary source documents, images, and more than 500 historical videos. Web links direct users to a number of relevant educational sites.

American Womens' History Online (Facts On File) Contains biographies, historical and topical subject entries, speeches and other documents, maps and charts, photographs, over 60 videos, and timeline entries that cover more than 500 years of American women's history.

Auto Repair Reference Center (EBSCO)
Information on most major vehicle manufacturers and more than 37,000 domestic and imported vehicles dating back to 1945.

Book Index with Reviews (EBSCO)
Information on over 5 million book titles, in a wide range of formats. BIR also contains almost 800,000 full-text searchable book reviews

Book Index with Reviews - Entertainment (EBSCO)
Information on about 450,000 music titles and 200,000 DVD/video titles

Business Source Elite (EBSCO)
Full text for over 1,000 business publications, plus more than 10,100 company profiles from Datamonitor.

Consumer Health Complete (EBSCO)
This database provides comprehensive content on a variety of health-related topics and includes access to up-to-date patient education guides and publications on drugs.

Countrywatch Provides background information about individual countries and political and economic news from around the world.

CQ Researcher
Examines a controversial issue every week, offering background information, pro and con arguments, and references for further study.

ERIC - Educational Resources Information Center (EBSCO)
Provides access to education journals and other resources. It links to more than 300,000 full-text documents dating back to 1966.

Ethnic NewsWatch (Proquest)
Full-text newspaper and magazine articles from ethnic, minority, and native publications.

European Views of the Americas: 1493 to 1750 (EBSCO)
EBSCO Publishing, in cooperation with the John Carter Brown Library, has created this comprehensive guide to printed records about the Americas written in Europe before 1750.

Funk & Wagnalls New World Encyclopedia (EBSCO)
Offers over 25,000 encyclopedic entries covering a variety of subject areas. It is updated annually.

Scholarly and general interest articles, plus government reports, about the environment.

Health Source: Consumer Edition (EBSCO)
Information on many health topics including the medical sciences, food sciences and nutrition, childcare, sports medicine and general health.

Health Source: Nursing/Academic Edition (EBSCO)
Contains full-text articles from health and medical journals and magazines.

Journals@Ovid - Nursing and Allied Health (OVID)
Full text of selected nursing and allied health journals.

Learning Express
This database provides practice exams for basic skills, TOEFL, civil service, U.S. citizenship , nursing including NCLEX and other academic and career oriented preparations. You must register and create your own I.D. and password.

Knowledge Base Portal (SIRS)
provides relevant, credible information on social issues, science, history, government, the arts and humanities. Articles on controversial issues are offered featuring two sides of the issues: their PRO and CON. Full-text articles and Internet resources are carefully selected from thousands of domestic and international publications and respected organizations. Databases about countries of the world, political conditions and their maps are also offered.

Indexes periodicals, books, and research reports on librarianship, cataloging, online information retrieval, and information management.

MAS Ultra School Edition (EBSCO)
This database contains full text of magazines, reference books, biographies, primary source documents, and an Image Collection of over 510,000 photos, maps & flags.

MasterFILE Premier (EBSCO)
Thousands of general magazine articles, many in full text.

Index and citations for journal articles and other resources related to medicine, nursing, dentistry, veterinary medicine, and the health care system.

Military & Government Collection (EBSCO)
A collection of periodicals, academic journals, and other content current news pertaining to all branches of the military and government.

National Newspapers Core (ProQuest)
Full-text articles and abstracts from the Los Angeles Times, New York Times, Christian Science Monitor, Wall Street Journal, and the Washington Post.

Newspaper Source Plus (EBSCO)
Full-text access to more than 700 national and international newspapers including the Orange County Register, San Jose Mercury News, San Francisco Chronicle, USA Today, and The Times (London). Also includes television and radio transcripts from CBS News, CNN, National Public Radio, etc. are included.

Occupational Outlook Handbook (Free to all users)
The Bureau of Statistics of the U.S. Department of Labor provides this nationally recognized source of career information, designed to provide valuable assistance to individuals making decisions about their future work lives.

Primary Search (EBSCO)
A full text collection of more than 70 popular magazines.

Professional Development Collection (EBSCO)
A source of articles from over 500 full-text education journals, designed especially for educators, librarians, and researchers. This database also contains more than 200 reports.

Project Gutenberg (Free for all users)
The first and largest single collection of free electronic books, or eBooks. There are over 25,000 free books in the Project Gutenberg Online Book Catalog.

ProQuest Research Library
Provides one-stop access to more than 4,000 scholarly journals, trade publications, and magazines covering over 150 academic disciplines.

Psychology and Behavioral Sciences Collection (EBSCO)
Articles on psychology, psychiatry, and anthropology from over 500 full-text journals. Regional Business News (EBSCO)
Over 70 business journals, newspapers and news wires from various metropolitan and rural areas within the United States. Updated daily. Religion and Philosophy Collection (EBSCO)

Science.gov (Free to all users)
Searches over 36 databases and 1,850 selected websites, offering 200 million pages of authoritative U.S. government science information, including research and development results. This is a government sponsored site offering huge databases on topics like Math, Agriculture, Physics and a host of other areas

Conveys the visual nature of science in a clear and easy-to-comprehend manner. All content in this comprehensive database is divided into sections based on the science curriculum established by the National Science Education Standards, enabling students and researchers to access printable experiments, diagrams, definitions, biographies, more than 350 videos, and essays in a specific subject area or discipline.
