About Leticia:

Leticia Vasquez is a proud member of the El Camino College Compton Education Center community.  Her mother, Olga, is a 1987 graduate of Compton Community College.  Born at Dominguez Valley Hospital in Compton, Leticia attended local schools, and taught for Lynwood Unified School District.  She has worked for local non-profit organizations including the Young Women's Christian Association Sexual Assault Crisis Program providing services to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.  In 1996 she was honored as "Woman of the Year" for her work in developing programs aimed at creating partnerships within the criminal justice system and more specifically bridging the relationship gap between courts, corrections, and victims of violent crimes. She went on to work for former Congressman Mervyn M. Dymally.  In 2003 she was elected to serve as a member of Lynwood City Council and in 2005 made history as the city's fist Latina mayor.  She is an advocate of Compton Community College and has testified before the California Senate Education Committee and the California Community College Board of Governors in Sacramento.  Further, she has served as a guest speaker to Compton's Regional Transfer Collaborative at University California Irvine.  Ms. Vasquez has served on numerous boards and commissions in the surrounding communities.  Leticia holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice, Master of Public Policy & Administration in Urban Affairs, and a Masters Degree in Education from Pepperdine University.
