I am proud to announce that on Saturday, October 30, 2021, Linda Owens, our chief facilities officer, submitted the Compton College Student Housing Proposal. Classified Professionals Needs Assessment closes on November 5, 2021, at 5:00 p.m.

The California Community Colleges Chancellor's Office is seeking as much input as possible from classified professionals across the California Community Colleges. Responses are critical to guiding the Chancellor's Office's intentional investment in and design of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion professional development for classified professionals.

This voluntary survey will take 14 minutes to complete. If you are a classified professional, we encourage you to fill out the assessment so that your voice is heard. You may begin the assessment by clicking on the following link or copying and pasting it into your browser: https://csus.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_40ebww1NnXGaOcC

Closing the Loop

As a follow-up to the Consultative Council meeting on Monday, October 25, 2021, we agreed to participate in a  Collegiality in Action Workshop, a joint program of the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges and the Community College League of California. The goal is to offer this workshop for all constituent groups sometime during the spring 2022 semester. More information on the Collegiality in Action Workshop, including the date and time, will be provided in a future President/CEO Message. While developing the Compton College Collaborative Governance document, we held a Collegiality in Action Workshop during the spring 2019 semester. A copy of that presentation is available here for your reference.

Final Thoughts

In the President/CEO Message - June 17, 2021, and the President/CEO Message - September 30, 2021, I talked about the "ew normal" and how we need to decide what we should keep as a new way of doing things as a part of the lessons we have learned during the COVID-19 pandemic. Once again, we need to have conversations about our online course offerings while considering Compton College's Substantive Change Proposal that was approved by the Accrediting Commission of Community and Junior Colleges. I have previously asked the Academic Senate for their feedback regarding our long-term planning for our online course offerings; and will be following up with Sheri Berger, vice president of Academic Affairs, for recommendations from the deans and division chairs. We need to review the hours of operations for the college and the number of days offices and programs will be open to the public and students.

This afternoon, in the Consultative Council Meeting, the Associated Student Government had questions and concerns regarding promoting events to students and the campus community. Next week, during the Consultative Council meeting, we will have further conversations about this topic. I encourage everyone, employees, and students, to check the online calendar of events weekly, which is available on the Compton College website and the MyCompton portal. Also, if you have creative input regarding how we promote events to students and the campus community, please forward those recommendations to me at kcurry@compton.edu.

In closing, please have a safe and productive week serving our students. This semester is moving very quickly, and we are almost into the Holiday season.

Sincerely,

Keith Curry, Ed.D.
