Message from the PRESIDENT/CEO
March 24, 2020
Campus Community,
I want to provide you with an update on Compton College in terms of COVID-19. The Compton CCD Pandemic Outbreak - Emergency Operations Plan guides our response to the possible scenarios that may occur as the COVID-19 situation progresses. As of March 23, 2020, 2:00 p.m. Pacific Time, the California Department of Health reports there are a total of 2,102 positive cases and 40 deaths in California (including one non-California resident). For more information, go to www.cdph.ca.gov/Programs/CID/DCDC/Pages/Immunization/ncov2019.
Compton CCD is currently operating at Level Three - Moderate Infection Rate. Recent confirmed case(s) of a community member, and/or family member of student, staff, or faculty within the county. Today marked the third-day of alternative academic instruction and online student support services. The Compton College Pandemic Coordinators and members of the President/CEO Cabinet met today, and below are some updates:
- Compton College students can obtain FREE meals at Everytable by showing their current
Compton College ID. We currently have 30 meals available each weekday, Monday-Friday.
The plan is to increase the number of meals to 300 per week. Below is the Everytable
location and hours of operations:
253 E. Compton Boulevard, Compton, CA 90220
323-407-7690
Monday-Thursday: 9 a.m. - 8 p.m.
Friday: 10 a.m. - 7 p.m. - Once again, full-time Classified staff who are working remotely, if you have not received
your laptop from the Information Technology Services Department, please contact your
immediate supervisor to make arrangements to pick-up your laptop this week. Also,
adjunct faculty members who need a laptop computer, please forward your request to
your Instructional Dean.
- As previously mentioned, we have 425 laptop computers that will be loaned to current
Compton College students this semester. Today, I approved ordering an additional 300
laptop computers, so in total, we will have 725 laptop computers to loan to spring 2020 Compton College students. We will distribute the first 200
laptops on Monday, March 30, 2020, to eligible students. Eligibility information, as well as distribution times, will
be provided online as soon as the details are finalized.
- The Community Relations Department has developed an Alternative Instruction FAQ webpage
for Compton College students, which is available here.
- Today, I asked the Vice President of Student Services, Elizabeth Martinez, to explore
all options as it relates to the 2020 Compton College Commencement Ceremony scheduled
for Friday, June 12, 2020, at 11:00 a.m. Over the past couple of days, I have been thinking about a virtual
commencement ceremony. The virtual commencement ceremony would be a pre-recorded commencement
ceremony, including keynote speeches, and 10-15 second videos from each graduate.
The virtual commencement ceremony would then be published online at 11:00 a.m. on
Friday, June 12, 2020. We would still publish a commencement ceremony program, and all 2020 Compton College
graduates would be invited to participate in the spring 2021 Compton College Commencement
Ceremony. If you have any thoughts about the proposed virtual commencement ceremony
or other recommendations regarding the spring 2020 Compton College Commencement Ceremony,
please forward your suggestions to Andree Pacheco, Director of Student Development
and Athletics at apacheco@compton.edu.
- Today, I asked the Pandemic Coordinators to begin working on the Compton College FEMA's
Public Assistance Program Application, which is due by April 8, 2020.
Compton College COVID-19 Updates

Compton College Website
It more critical than ever that we update and maintain our programs/departments/divisions
webpages. Students and community members will be looking for information on our webpages.
However, many webpages have not been updated for a very long period of time. Heather
Parnock, Director of Community Relations, will be reaching out to programs, departments,
and divisions requesting you to update your webpages. We need all webpages updated
by Tuesday, April 7, 2020. If the webpages are not updated, then we will have no choice but to take them down.
Sincerely,
Keith Curry, Ed.D.
