Message from the PRESIDENT/CEO

March 13, 2020

Campus Community,

I wanted to provide you with an update on Compton College in terms of COVID-19. The Compton CCD Pandemic Outbreak - Emergency Operations Plan guides our response to the possible scenarios that may occur as the COVID-19 situation progresses.  As of March 13, 2020, 7:00 a.m. Pacific Time, the California Department of Health reports there are a total of 247 positive cases and five deaths in California (including one non-California resident). For more information, go to www.cdph.ca.gov/Programs/CID/DCDC/Pages/Immunization/ncov2019.

Compton CCD remains operating at Level Two - Minimal Infection Rate: New virus cases identified from human-to-human contact in California; Confirmed cases within the state; no cases on-campus or community. Today, the Compton College Pandemic Coordinators met, and the following will be implemented:

Compton College Academic Instruction
The safety and well-being of the Compton College community is our priority, and our pandemic outbreak plan is designed with the flexibility to adjust to changing conditions.

To assist Compton College faculty as they transition courses to an alternative instruction method, such as Canvas course delivery software or teleconferencing, all classes will be canceled Tuesday, March 17, 2020, through Friday, March 20, 2020.

Saturday, March 14, 2020, and Monday, March 16, 2020, classes will be held as scheduled on campus. We are asking faculty and staff to advise students of the pending alternative instruction transition. Please note, we are also asking faculty to collect information from students as it relates to their access to computers and broadband. Students will also be asked to review their @compton.edu emails on a regular basis. An email will be sent to faculty with the link to the online survey to collect the student data.

To minimize the number of students on campus and increase social distancing, Compton College will move the majority of courses to alternative methods of instruction, beginning Saturday, March 21, 2020, through Friday, April 10, 2020.

Certain courses, such as labs and physical education courses, that cannot be conducted online and must be taught on campus, in-person, will be reviewed separately.

Options are also being explored for students who don't have reliable access to computers or broadband. More information will be provided on Wednesday, March 18, 2020.
