Compton College Winter 2022: Entry to Campus Protocol

While on campus, everyone is expected to follow specific protocols to help ensure the health and safety of the Compton College community and the public.

All Currently Enrolled Students

Entry to Campus Protocol including Symptom Screening

All individuals entering campus are required to complete:

  1. Online wellness survey within 12 hours of their arrival time. 
  2. Temperature check.
  3. NEW: One-time only, provide negative COVID-19 viral test results upon initial entry to campus, effective January 4, 2022.
Vaccination Requirement

Per Compton CCD Resolution No. 08-17-2021A, all students enrolled in in-person on-campus classes are required to be fully vaccinated by January 1, 2022.

In general, individuals are considered "Fully vaccinated" (per the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health) 2 weeks after :

  • You got a Johnson & Johnson (J&J)/Janssen COVID-19 vaccine, or
  • You got a second dose of a Pfizer or Moderna COVID-19 vaccine, or
  • You finished the series of a COVID-19 vaccine that has been listed for emergency use by the World Health Organization (WHO)

If you don't meet these requirements, regardless of your age, you are NOT fully vaccinated.

Testing

Students receiving an exemption or accommodation from the Compton CCD vaccination requirement shall, if allowed on campus without vaccination, be subject to weekly COVID-19 testing and are required to wear a face mask.

NEW: One-time negative COVID-19 viral test results are required upon initial entry to campus beginning January 4, 2022.

Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (LACDPH) - Guidance for Institutions of Higher Education (IHE): Anyone with COVID-19 symptoms (regardless of vaccination status) should get tested for COVID-19 and be immediately isolated away from others. If they test positive, they need to remain isolated from others for minimum 10 days from symptom onset and until fever-free for at least 24 hours (without the use of fever-reducing medicine) along with improvement of other symptoms.

Quarantine/Isolation Students should refer to the California Department of Public Health "Guidance on Isolation and Quarantine for COVID-19 Contact Tracing."
Masks

Everyone*, regardless of vaccination status, must wear a mask in all indoor public spaces on campus; except when eating or drinking (preferably outdoors).

*Refer to the LACDPH "When You Need to Wear A Mask" guidelines and the LACDPH Order of the Health Officer - Responding Together at Work and in the Community.

Physical Distancing Physical distancing is not necessary for fully vaccinated students, faculty, and staff on campus for IHEs where everyone is fully vaccinated except as indicated in CDC's Interim Public Health Recommendations for Fully Vaccinated People.
Building/Campus Access
  • Students are permitted to enter any open offices/buildings as needed to attend class or receive in-person services.
  • Students are not permitted to attend classes in which they are not officially registered.
  • Students are not permitted to bring guests to campus.

The following communal spaces are closed: Student Lounge.

Parking Permits Parking Permits Are Not Required. Tickets will not be issued to non-employees (visitors and students) who park in student lots during the 2021-2022 Academic Year (August 19, 2021 - June 10, 2022), weekdays and weekends.
Travel

Los Angeles County Department of Public Health Travel Advisory and Guidance - updated 12/14/2021 to align with the California Department of Public Health Travel Advisory. All travelers arriving in or returning to California from other states or countries should test 3-5 days upon arrival.

  • Domestic: regardless of vaccination status, test 3-5 days after return to California; no quarantine required.
  • International: viral test required 3-5 days after return to California; quarantine 7 days if NOT fully vaccinated, even with a negative test result.
Reporting a Positive COVID-19 Case

All individuals must notify the Compton College Pandemic Coordinators via email (iali@compton.edu, rjames@compton.edu, lowens@compton.edu, apacheco@compton.edu, hparnock@compton.edu, and mthompson@compton.edu) if they are confirmed positive for COVID-19.

Provide the following information via your @compton.edu email: your full name; Compton College student ID, if applicable; date of the test, and when and where you were last on campus. The Acting Vice President of Human Resources, Ibrahim Ali, will contact you for additional follow-up information as needed for reporting to the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health.

Student-Athletes (in-season and off-season)

Vaccination Requirement

Per Compton CCD Resolution No. 08-17-2021A, all in-season/off-season or all student-athletes are required to be fully vaccinated to participate in school athletics (including practice, play and travel).

In general, individuals are considered "fully vaccinated" (per the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)):

  • 2 weeks after their second dose in a 2-dose series, such as the Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna vaccines, or
  • 2 weeks after a single-dose vaccine, such as Johnson & Johnson's Janssen vaccine

If you don't meet these requirements, regardless of your age, you are NOT fully vaccinated.

Testing

Student-athletes who did not submit proof of COVID-19 vaccination status or who did not receive an approved exemption or accommodation by the October 1, 2021 deadline will be prohibited from participating in school athletics.

Student-athletes receiving an exemption or accommodation from the Compton CCD vaccination requirement must follow the CCCAA/Compton College Tartar Athletics COVID-19 requirements regarding weekly testing.

Active student-athletes must submit weekly COVID-19 test results regardless of vaccination status.

  • Test results must be submitted via the MyCompton portal, using the tile labeled "COVID-19 Vaccination-Exemption-Test Submission" before your first scheduled meeting on campus, and by noon on Monday each week.
  • Testing must occur within 72 hours of submitting results to be valid.
