The TRiO Programs are federally funded educational opportunity programs designed to motivate and support students from disadvantaged backgrounds. TRiO includes one Collegiate Program and two Pre-Collegiate Programs. TRiO support programs are targeted to serve and assist low-income, first-generation students, and students with disabilities to progress through the academic pipeline from middle school to postbaccalaureate programs.

COLLEGIATE PROGRAM

Student Support Services Program

The Student Support Services Program is a TRiO Program funded by the U. S. Department of Education to provide educational support services to increase the retention, graduation, and transfer rates for participants who are low-income, disabled and first-generation college students. The program serves to motivate participants toward the successful completion of their postsecondary education. The goal of SSS is to increase the college retention and graduation rates of its participants and help students make the transition from one level of higher education to the next.

PROGRAM ELIGIBILITY

Be enrolled full-time
Be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States
Meet federal low-income criteria
First-generation college student (parents do not have bachelor’s degree)
Have an educational goal to graduate with an associate degree and/or transfer to a four-year college/university
Demonstrate an academic need

ELIGIBILITY EXCEPTIONS

Disabled students may appeal low-income criteria requirements and must demonstrate a need for academic support.
Non first-generation students must meet low-income criteria and must demonstrate need for academic support.

UPWARD BOUND MATH SCIENCE PROGRAM

The Upward Bound Math Science Program is designed to strengthen the math and science skills of participating students. The goal of the program is to help students recognize and develop their potential to excel in math and science, complete secondary education and to prepare them to pursue postsecondary degrees in math and science.
