Tartar Support: Aid for Student's Basic Needs

Compton College is committed to assisting students in need, especially those who have housing and food concerns or simply need some extra support.

Specifically, Compton College has established a free shower/towel/soap program that will guarantee students soap and clean towels to wash up in the locker facilities, which are open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday when classes are in session each semester and during the summer. In partnership with the Compton Grocery Outlet, Compton College opened a food pantry on campus in May 2017 for eligible, currently enrolled students.

"I'm proud that we're making a start to assist this population of students who need a little extra help," said Junior Domingo, Director of Student Development & Athletics who co-chairs Compton College's Homeless Student Task Force.

The task force has initiated a process to reach out to homeless students and students in need to let them know about financial aid, veterans' assistance and other resources that might be available to them. In addition, the task force is examining other ways to assist students with basic needs. For more information about the Tartar Support Program, please call 310-900-1600, ext. 2802.
