Students Encouraged to Apply for Scholarships

The ECC Compton Center Scholarship Application is now open! Students with a 2.0 grade point average or better who have completed, or are in the process of completing, a minimum of six graded credit units at ECC Compton Center are encouraged to apply by the November 30 deadline. Scholarships range from $500 to $4,000 and may be used to help pay for tuition, books, fees and supplies. The scholarship programs bases eligibility on diverse criteria including: honors and academic achievement, financial need, leadership and community service, organizational and campus club affiliation, and more. Winter 2017

A five-week winter term is scheduled for January 5 to February 7, 2017. Students may take courses, repeat an essential course, and satisfy prerequisites during the winter term. A variety of both day and evening courses will be offered, from transferrable general education to career and technical education (CTE). Basic skills courses will also be available, with seven sections of basic skills courses in math, English, and educational development. In addition, 15 sections in distance education/online classes will be offered.


Alumna Spotlight: Denisse Juarez

Although Denisse Juarez was accepted to California State University, Northridge after graduating from Lynwood High School in 2013, cost and distance were prohibitive and she had to consider other options. “Luckily, I found a true community at El Camino College Compton Center and ended up feeling really comfortable there,” said Juarez. “The many resources, and especially the Transfer Center, helped me transition from high school to college, guided me into the proper classes, and helped me explore four-year universities.” Read More...

Compton Center Welcomes New Dean of Student Learning

El Camino College Compton Center is pleased to announce that Abiodun Osanyinpeju was hired as the new dean of student learning, effective May 18, 2016. Under the direction of the vice president of ECC Compton Center, Osanyinpeju will plan, organize, and direct the operations of one of three major instructional divisions at the institution. Launch of Cosmetology Program

El Camino College Compton Center launched a Cosmetology program this fall for students interested in the beauty and wellness industry to earn a two-year degree and various certificates. A grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony for the Cosmetology program was held on August 16. The event included an open house and tours of the cosmetology facility on campus. Read more...



New Student Welcome Day 2016

Hundreds of students started off the fall semester by attending ECC Compton Center’s annual “New Student Welcome Day” on August 24. The event provides the ideal opportunity for new students to begin acclimating to college life. The informative workshops and activities are designed to give students the tools they need to be prepared for their first day of classes.




Accreditation Update

ECC Compton Center Accreditation Update

The Candidacy Application and Self-Evaluation Report for ECC Compton Center are due to the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC) by January 6, 2017. The ACCJC External Evaluation Team visit to the Compton Center is scheduled for Monday, March 6 through Thursday, March 9, 2017. The Self-Evaluation Report is continuing to be reviewed and edited by the various Standard Committees. The initial review process for faculty and staff concluded on June 30. Individual Accreditation Standards will be posted online during September and October for faculty and staff to review. An updated Standard 1 draft document is available online here.

For the fall semester, ECC Compton Center has scheduled meetings for the Self-Evaluation Standards Committees. Remaining meetings are set for October 14, and November 4. During these meetings, committee members will review and edit the Self-Evaluation Report and verify evidence for each accreditation standard.

The latest version of the "Process to Accreditation" document is available online. This updated document reflects progress made since the spring 2015 and outlines the ACCJC timeline moving forward.

Compton Community College District Introduces New Student Trustee

The new student trustee for the Compton Community College District (CCCD) is Lynwood resident Joshua Ramos, who was appointed to represent the students of El Camino College Compton Center on the District’s Board. Read More...






FCMAT Update

As required by Assembly Bill 318, the Fiscal Crisis Management Assistance Team (FCMAT) Comprehensive Review of Compton Community College District was conducted during the months of April and May 2016. On August 16, the Compton District board received a presentation on the 10th FCMAT Progress Report. The FCMAT Progress Report is available online at the District website. An overview of the report results and next steps may be viewed here.

Pack the Stands for Tartar Football!

Students and community members are invited to pack the stands for “Saturday Tartar Football” during every home game of the season! “Saturday Tartar Football” offers the perfect opportunity for students, Compton Center Athletic fans, and local residents to come together to cheer for a common cause and display community pride.

The upcoming home game schedule for Tartar Football is as follows:

  • October 8 vs. East Los Angeles College @ 6:00 p.m.
  • October 22 vs. Santa Ana College @ 6:00 p.m.
  • November 12 vs. Los Angeles Southwest College @ 6:00 p.m.

Football home game admission prices are: $5 general admission; $3 senior citizens, youth ages 5-12 and Compton Center employees; and free for students with ECC Compton Center Fall 2016 ASB sticker.



Celebrate Latino Heritage Month at Compton Center

El Camino College Compton Center is celebrating Latino Heritage Month through October 13 with a series of educational and cultural events. The events incorporate the 2016 Latin Heritage Month theme selected by the Associated Student Body officers and event committee: “Todos Unidos en Uno (Everyone Stands as One).” The month-long celebration kicked off on September 15 and is sponsored by the Office of Student Life and Associated Student Body. The final two events scheduled in October include:

  • Latino Book Fair on Tuesday, October 11, 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. and Wednesday, October 12, 6:00 - 8:00 p.m., in the Student Lounge.
  • Bake-Off Competition featuring desserts from Latin America on Thursday, October 13, noon - 1:00 p.m., in the Student Lounge.

Students, ECC Compton Center employees, alumni and members of the public are invited to attend all of the complimentary 2016 Latino Heritage Month events at ECC Compton Center. Valid daily parking permits are required and may be purchased for $3 at the parking lot pay stations.



Congratulations 2016 Distinguished Faculty and Staff Honorees

El Camino College Compton Center recently announced its honorees for the 2016 Distinguished Faculty and Staff awards at the Annual Faculty and Staff Appreciation Breakfast, an event designed to thank all members of the campus community for their commitment to ECC Compton Center and its educational mission. Eyob Wallano, science instructor; Felecia Hatten, admissions and records specialist; and Robert Rooks, real estate adjunct instructor, were recognized for their dedication to students, ECC Compton Center, and colleagues. Student Services Advisor and Foster Youth Advocate Receives Recognition

Louis Williams, El Camino College Compton Center student services advisor, was recently honored with a 2016 Pearl Award by the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. The sorority’s philanthropic arm, The Pearl Foundation, Inc., along with the local Theta Alpha Omega chapter of Long Beach annually honors those who provide outstanding contributions of community service in the areas of educational enrichment, health promotion, family strengthening, environmental ownership, and global impact.
