ECC Compton Center Offers an Excellent Education at the Best Value

California residents spend only about $1,400 per year to attend ECC Compton Center. We offer the same general education courses as UC and CSU schools, while saving students thousands of dollars. In fact, students seeking a bachelor's degree can cut their student debt in half by starting general education classes at ECC Compton Center and transferring to a four-year college or university.

Commencement 2017: A Red Carpet Event #ComptonGrad

El Camino College Compton Center's 2017 Commencement Ceremony will take place at 5:30 p.m. on June 8 in the Tartar Quad. As part of the festivities, students, friends and family members are invited to join the Class of 2017 at the "Red Carpet Event" during this year's Commencement Reception in the Student Lounge. A custom step-and-repeat backdrop will provide fun photo opportunities for graduates, family and friends. Attendees are invited to take photos and post them online using #ComptonGrad to be included in ECC Compton Center's social media channels.

Commencement 2017 Keynote Speaker: Eloy Ortiz Oakley, Chancellor for the California Community Colleges

El Camino College Compton Center is pleased to welcome California Community Colleges Chancellor Eloy Ortiz Oakley as the 2017 commencement speaker. He is the first Latino to lead the California Community Colleges and was appointed chancellor by the California Community Colleges Board of Governors in December 2016.

Oakley is best known throughout California and the nation for implementing innovative programs and policies that help students succeed in college. Oakley strongly believes that California's emerging economies demand a workforce with quality credentials and that the state's 113 community colleges play a pivotal role in moving California forward. Pinning Ceremony Scheduled for June 6

El Camino College Compton Center will honor students graduating with an associate of science degree in VOLUME 29, NUMBER 6 at a pinning ceremony on June 6. The VOLUME 29, NUMBER 6 Pinning Ceremony is scheduled to take place at 6 p.m. in the ECC Compton Center gymnasium with a reception immediately following in the foyer.

Paving the Way to College Success: First Year Experience Program

The transition to higher education, whether from high school or work, involves a period of adaptation and skill building that can pose challenges for new students. These challenges are often compounded for first-generation college students and those who may feel unprepared for the college environment. ECC Compton Center is at the forefront of promoting college readiness and introducing students to the academic, social, administrative and financial realities of academic life through their First Year Experience Program (FYE).

FYE directly addresses the needs of incoming students through a comprehensive support program that is yielding outstanding results.

Counselor Vanessa Haynes Receives A2MEND Award

Academic Counselor Vanessa Haynes is a 2016-17 A2MEND Award recipient who was recently honored for going above and beyond in helping to support, encourage and enhance the success of all students at El Camino College Compton Center. Haynes is one of 13 college faculty members who were honored on March 2 by the African American Male Education Network and Development at its annual Scholarship and Awards Dinner.

Haynes received the Distinguished Faculty Award at ECC Compton Center in 2013 and has served students as an academic counselor since 1998. A respected counselor who is valued by her colleagues for her energy and enthusiasm, she is known for her commitment to innovation and her passion for student success. She guides students by developing individual education plans, recommending workshops and teaching human development courses. Read more...

Senior Day Hosts 200 Local High School Graduates

El Camino College Compton Center opened its doors to high school seniors and their parents on May 10 for a Senior Day event showcasing the college's quality academic programs and student support resources.

ECC Compton Center hosted more than 200 graduating seniors representing high schools served by the Compton Community College District, including Centennial, Compton, Dominguez, Lynwood, and Marco Antonio Firebaugh high schools.

The event featured a variety of presentations, a resource fair, campus tours and staff who were on hand to help attendees complete the Steps to Enrollment, including filing an application. Participants received information about financial aid, Career and Technical Education programs, the First Year Experience (FYE) program, Extended Opportunity Programs and Services (EOPS), transferring to four-year universities and the many student services available.

An Accreditation 101 Workshop for faculty, staff and administrators is scheduled for May 16 from 1 to 2:30 p.m. in the Staff Lounge. Workshop participants will be provided with a detailed overview of the accreditation standards and the accreditation eligibility requirements. Read more...

Compton Community College District Board Meeting Scheduled for May 16

The next meeting of the Compton Community College District Board of Trustees is scheduled for Tuesday, May 16 at 5 p.m. in the Board Room.

All regular session Board meetings are open to the public. Closed session begins at 4 p.m. The Board Agenda is posted 72 hours in advance of the meeting. Agendas are posted on the BoardDocs website under the "Meetings" tab at:
