Class of 2014 Celebrates with a Red Carpet Event

Red Carpet EventAs part of the commencement festivities, students, friends and family members were invited to join the El Camino College Compton Center Class of 2014 at the “Red Carpet Event” during this year’s Commencement Reception in the Gymnasium. The reception took place immediately following the Commencement Ceremony on May 15 in Tartar Stadium. A custom step-and-repeat backdrop was available at the reception for graduates, family and friends. Attendees were invited to take photos and post them online using the hashtag #ComptonGrad to be included in ECC Compton Center’s social media channels. There were also real-time “tweets” posted on Twitter before, during and after the commencement ceremony via @compton_center. Alumni, friends, family and the ECC Compton Center community were encouraged to share their advice and best wishes to the Class of 2014! Congratulations graduates!

Presidential Scholar Chosen as Student Commencement Speaker

Miguel QuinteroPresidential Scholar Miguel Quintero was honored to be selected as the student speaker for the 2014 Commencement Ceremony at El Camino College Compton Center. He graduated with a cumulative GPA of 3.8 and has been accepted to California State University, Long Beach this fall to continue his studies in business administration. Click to read more.

 

El Camino College Compton Center Helps Student Overcome Math Anxiety

Tywanna DavisMath anxiety had plagued Tywanna Davis since she was in the third grade. By the time she was a young adult, she had convinced herself that her lack of math skills would hold her back from earning a college degree.

Davis graduated last week from El Camino College Compton Center with an associate degree in general and biological sciences. She was recently accepted to California State University, Dominguez Hills and plans to transfer there to study nursing while also working. Click to read more.

Student Scholars Honored at Annual Academic Awards Tea

Jennifer NunoEl Camino College Compton Center’s annual Academic Awards Tea held on April 27 recognized the academic achievements of 19 honor students, two Presidential Scholars, six Alpha Gamma Sigma honors society students, and 27 scholarship recipients. Scholarships awarded by both ECC Compton Center and the Foundation for the Compton Community College District totaled $26,000. Click to read more.

Grand Opening of New Library-Student Success Center Marks Significant Milestone in Rebuilding of Compton Community College District

Ribbon CuttingThe Compton Community College District (CCCD) celebrated a major milestone with a grand opening ceremony for the new Library-Student Success Center on April 15. The new Library-Student Success Center will facilitate academic success of future students as the CCCD continues the process of rebuilding in support of enrollment growth for years to come.

The newest building for El Camino College Compton Center students promotes energy efficiency and is a focal point for campus life, providing an inviting environment for student learning and instruction.

Located on the first floor of the new 45,000-square-foot Library-Student Success Center building, the Library provides reference services, general library orientation, research, instruction, and access to group study rooms. Click to read more.

El Camino College Compton Center Hosts Technical Conference for Women

Techincal Conference for WomenEl Camino College Compton Center hosted a free “Girls & Women in Technology Conference" attended by 200 participants on May 2. This conference introduced women and girls to educational paths and jobs in non-traditional careers that offer high pay, great benefits and job security. Workshops were led by ECC Compton Center Career and Technical Education (CTE) Division faculty and community agencies. A job and resource fair were also on the day’s agenda. Student Registration Priority Tiers and Appointment Dates

Online registration appointment information is available via MyECC. Student registration appointment dates are available based on Registration Priority Tiers. Students should access the Academic Calendar or the summer and fall class schedules on ECC Compton Center’s website for more details.

Summer Sessions

With the spring semester ending earlier this year, the ECC Compton Center summer class schedule also begins earlier. The first six-week summer session begins Wednesday, May 21. The eight-week summer session begins June 16 and the second six-week summer session begins July 7.
