Welcome New Dean of Student Services and Director of Student Development and Athletics

El Camino College Compton Center is pleased to welcome Elizabeth Martinez as the new Dean of Student Services, and Honorato (Junior) Domingo as the new Director of Student Development and Athletics. Employment was effective in January 2017 for both positions.

Photo of Elizabeth MartinezMartinez has worked at ECC Compton Center for nearly 12 years in various administrative positions, and has served as interim dean of student services since last July. Under the direction of the provost of ECC Compton Center, the dean of student services provides overall leadership in planning and directing student support services, including enrollment, outreach and recruitment. The dean's responsibilities encompass oversight of admissions and records; financial aid; Extended Opportunity Programs and Services (EOPS), Cooperative Agencies Resources for Education (CARE), disabled student programs and services, counseling, student development, student success and support programs, federally-funded TRIO programs, transfer services, and all other student support services.

Martinez served as director of enrollment services from summer 2013 to 2016. Prior to being hired to a full time position, she served as both interim director of enrollment services and interim director of the EOPS/CARE programs for several years. She also worked as the Transfer Center coordinator for six years. Prior to joining ECC Compton Center, she was a counselor at the Center for Community Counseling at California State University, San Diego from 2004-2005, and the co-founder of the Coachella Valley Youth Conference from 2003-2004. Martinez has dedicated her career to working as a student mentor and counselor with such programs as: Wahupa Upward Bound, MAAC Community Charter School, and MEChA de UCLA's Xinachtli Program.

Martinez is currently a doctoral student in educational leadership at UCLA, targeting completion in 2018. She earned a master's degree in education, specializing in multicultural counseling in 2005, and a bachelor's degree in sociology from UCLA in 2004.

Honorato (Junior) Domingo, Director of Student Development and Athletics
Photo of Honorato (Junior) DomingoDomingo first joined ECC Compton Center last August as interim director of student development and athletics. Under the direction of the dean of student services, the director of student development and athletics is responsible for planning and directing the operations of student activities on campus, including student government, student clubs and organizations, commencement, student discipline, student recruitment and the intercollegiate athletic program.

Prior to joining ECC Compton Center, Domingo served as interim athletic director at El Camino College and as an athletic trainer, coordinating sports medicine duties for student athletes participating in 22 CCCAA intercollegiate sports. He previously served as the head athletic trainer at the University of Redlands from 2005-2014. With 15 years university teaching experience, Domingo has also held lecturer and instructor positions in kinesiology, athletic training and health education at California State University, Dominguez Hills; California State University, Long Beach; University of Redlands; California Baptist University, Riverside; and Chapman University.

His leadership experience includes serving as the current regional director and legislative action team member for the California Athletic Trainers Association. He also serves on various committees for the National Athletic Trainers Association and Far West Athletic Trainers Association.

Domingo earned a master's degree in exercise science from Utah State University, and a bachelor's degree in kinesiology from California State University, Long Beach. He holds current board certifications as an athletic trainer, qualified examiner and American Heart Association instructor.
