Compton Community College District Board of Trustees Governance

On Feb. 14, the California Community Colleges Chancellor's office announced that the governor, Department of Finance and the California Community Colleges chancellor concurred with the Special Trustee that agreed governance of the Compton Community College District should be returned to the District's elected Board of Trustees. The return of local authority to the elected governing board is distinct and independent of the accreditation process for El Camino College Compton Center.

The CCCD Board of Trustees authority will be returned with the assistance of a special trustee, who will have significantly reduced responsibilities, in the form of stays and rescind authority. The chancellor's office is currently in the process of recruiting a special trustee. Once that process is complete, local authority with assistance from the special trustee, will be returned to the CCCD board.

Assembly Bill 318 and applicable Education Code, Section 71093 (a), provided the steps for the return of authority to the local elected governing board of CCCD. Available online are copies of the letter from California Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. and the joint letter from the Director of the Department of Finance Michael Cohen and the California Community Colleges Chancellor Eloy Oakley, regarding the return of local authority to the Compton Community College District Board of Trustees:
