Focus on Student Success: Kymberlee Wallace
Kymberlee Wallace is on track to graduate from ECC Compton Center with an associate degree in May. With aspirations of opening her own pediatric clinic in the future, Wallace plans to transfer to California State University, Long Beach this fall to major in sociology and pre-medicine. A graduate of Compton High School, she chose to attend Compton Center because the location is close to home and allows for an easy commute.
Wallace enrolled in the First Year Experience (FYE) program upon her graduation from high school, and says she thoroughly enjoyed participating in the program. “It was uplifting because I learned what to do at a college and how to take the right classes,” said Wallace. “The FYE program has amazing teachers and counselors. El Camino College Accreditation Self-Evaluation
As part of the accreditation self-evaluation process, Accreditation Forums are planned for the El Camino College and ECC Compton Center communities. This is a time for faculty, staff, and students to review and discuss the draft Self-Evaluation Report, in preparation for the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges team visit in October. Accreditation co-chairs Jean Shankweiler, Matt Cheung, and Holly Schumacher, along with Accreditation Liaison Officer Jeanie Nishime, will present Accreditation Forums at ECC and ECC Compton Center on March 27 and April 3.
The El Camino College Accreditation Team reviewed and gathered the information for the draft report, working to strengthen the evidence for each standard. As the accreditation process continues, it is important to note that the report should reflect what we do each day to contribute to student success. All are encouraged to read the Draft 2014 Institutional Self-Study in Support of Reaffirmation of Accreditation Report here. Please send all comments to Co-Chair Jean Shankweiler via email at jshankweiler@elcamino.edu.
