Compton College Welcomes New Managers and Faculty


Compton College is pleased to welcome Lynell Wiggins as the new director of Adult Education and Workforce Development; Octavio Salas, Jr. as the new assistant director of Facilities, Planning and Operations; and Shaun Cook joins the faculty as a chemistry instructor.

Lynell Wiggins, Director of Adult Education and Workforce Development
Lynell Wiggins is the new director of adult education and workforce development at Compton College. He oversees the development, implementation and evaluation of programming for non-traditional adult students, including courses, workshops3, support services, college preparation, technical training and career development. He will coordinate with select instructional programs and support services at Compton College that meet the educational and training needs of students and adult learners, and help them transition successfully to postsecondary education and into the workforce. Wiggins previously served as the vocational dean and strong workforce technical assistance provider for the California Community Colleges Chancellor's Office. Wiggins also worked as career technical education counselor and transitions coordinator at Pasadena City College. He has an extensive background in counseling and student affairs and has written three publications. He earned his master's degree in education and student affairs and a bachelor's degree in psychology, both from Azusa Pacific University.

Octavio Salas, Jr., Assistant Director of Facilities, Planning and Operations
As assistant director of facilities, planning and operations, Octavio Salas, Jr. will work with the facilities director to plan, organize, guide and control the assigned activities of construction, maintenance and daily operations of the Compton Community College District grounds. He is responsible for providing short- and long-term planning and will assure compliance with local state and federal laws, codes, ordinances and District policies and procedures. Salas, Jr. previously served as the maintenance and grounds manager at Forest Lawn Memorial Parks & Mortuaries. From 2001-2016, he held management positions at Enderle Vault Company and Inglewood Park Cemetery. He earned his bachelor's degree in business administration marketing. He holds several certifications including the Lean Six Sigma Black Belt and the American Red Cross Disaster Services.

Shaun Cook, Chemistry Instructor Shaun Cook earned a master's degree and a bachelor's degree in chemistry, both from California State University Fullerton. Cook has held various positions teaching chemistry at the college level. His teaching experience includes Cerritos College, El Camino College and California State University, Fullerton. In addition to his teaching experience, Cook also worked as a laboratory technician and chemist for ExxonMobil and served in the United States Armed Forces as a Marine and Army sergeant. Cook also received several awards including the American Institute of Chemists award for Outstanding Undergraduate in Chemistry.
