Compton College Baseball Coach Shannon B. Williams Earns 220th Career VictoryOn March 16, 2019, Tartar Baseball's 7-3 victory over Chaffey College marked Coach Shannon B. Williams 220th win making him the all-time "winningest" baseball coach in Compton College's history. Head Coach Williams is in his 17th season at the helm of the Compton College Tartar Baseball program. During his tenure, Coach Williams has provided stability to the baseball program and continued to help change students' lives in the Compton community and surrounding areas.

Coach Williams has led the Tartars to two of their four playoffs appearances (2010 and 2013) in school history. Since the institution was founded in 1927, Compton College Baseball has made four appearances in the state regional playoffs (1954, 1956, 2010 2013). In 2013, Compton College became only the second No.16 seed to upset a No. 2 seed (Riverside City College) in the first week of the playoffs. Achievements that season included a super-regional appearance and a school record 25 wins for the Tartars.

The most impressive contribution during his tenure is the fact that a total of 170 players have transferred from Compton College to four-year colleges and universities. Eleven players have been drafted and signed professional baseball contracts. A total of 7 players have been named JC All America/All Region: Alfredo Lopez (2010), Matt Young (2011), Pascual Garcia (2012), Omar Pelayo (2013), Nick Sanchez (2013), Larry Barraza (2014), and Martin Teague (2015). Two players were named South Coast Conference MVP's: Matt Young (2011) and Martin Teague (2015). In 2010, Alfredo Lopez was named California Rawlings Big Stick Offensive Player of the Year. In addition, 47 players earned All-Conference honors, 4 Tartars were All-State Academic Selections and 3 players were Rawlings Gold Glove Team Selections.
