Provost/CEO Message

Welcome to the fall 2015 semester! We are off to a great start with lots of new things happening at both the Compton Community College District (CCCD) and ECC Compton Center. We are pleased to welcome eight new faculty members, who are introduced in this issue of The Messenger. Major construction and facility upgrades continue with the refurbished football/soccer field opening this month, and the all-new Allied Health Building scheduled for completion by the end of this year.

Everyone is invited to support the Tartar Athletic Program and the student-athletes who compete in the 12 sports currently offered at ECC Compton Center. Attending a Tartar athletic event offers the perfect opportunity for CCCD employees, students, Compton Center athletic fans, and local residents to come together to cheer for a common cause and display community pride.

This summer, Vice President Barbara Perez and I had the opportunity to attend the kick-off event for the new Early College High School established in partnership with the Compton Unified School District. The Early College High School’s class of 2019 began instruction this fall, and is 120 students strong!

The CCCD recently announced another exciting new partnership with Molina Medical Management, Inc. to provide student health care services in the near future. The proposed health care clinic to be operated by Molina Medical Management, Inc., and established on CCCD grounds, will provide accessible health care services to El Camino College Compton Center students.

Please enjoy perusing this issue of The Messenger, which highlights student success stories including the ASB Student Council, the Debate Team, and students in the Career and Technical Education program. I look forward to an exciting year!
