Welcome New Faculty!

Eight new full-time faculty members have been hired at El Camino College Compton Center for the 2015-16 academic year. These instructors bring extensive knowledge and professional experience and join ECC Compton Center in its mission to provide high-quality educational programs that contribute to student success.

Michelle BaldiMichelle Baldi
Nursing instructor. Michelle Baldi received a bachelor’s degree in nursing from the Western Governors University and an associate degree in nursing from El Camino College. She has worked as an emergency department nurse at both Torrance Memorial Medical Center and Centinela Hospital Medical Center. She also has experience as a supervisory nurse at the Hall Center in Venice, California, and served the public for eleven years as a lifeguard for Los Angeles County.

Theresa Barragan-EcheverriaTheresa Barragan-Echeverria
Transfer/Career counselor. Theresa Barragan-Echeverria earned a master’s degree in educational counseling with a pupil personnel services credential from the University of La Verne, and a bachelor’s degree in business administration from California State University, Los Angeles. Prior to joining ECC Compton Center, she served as a transfer and general counselor at Santa Monica College. At El Camino College, she provided counsel for the basic skills intervention program and worked as a counselor for several other programs including First Year Experience, High School Outreach, Extended Opportunity Programs and Services, and MESA/STEM. She was also a counselor for Project MATCH at Los Angeles Southwest College.

Nona DayNona Day
Nursing instructor. Nona Day received her master’s degree in nursing from California State University, Dominquez Hills; an associate degree in nursing from Cypress College; and an associate degree in business administration from Olive Harvey College in Chicago. Before becoming a full-time faculty member at ECC Compton Center, she was a nursing instructor at El Camino College, Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science, Los Angeles Community College District, and Riverside Community College District. She has also worked as a staff nurse at the Riverside Center for Behavioral Medicine and LAC+USC Medical Center.

Ginger Davidson KellerGinger Davidson Keller
Counselor/Learning Disabilities specialist. Ginger Davidson Keller earned a master’s degree in educational counseling from Texas A&M University, a master’s degree in special education from the University of North Texas, and a bachelor’s degree in sociology from the University of Tulsa. Prior to joining ECC Compton Center as a full-time faculty member, she worked as a counselor at El Camino College, ECC Compton Center, and the Switzer Learning Center in Torrance, California. She also worked as a special education teacher at the Garland Alternative Education Center in Texas.

Katherine MarshKatherine Marsh
Biology instructor. Katherine Marsh earned a Ph.D. in microbiology and immunology from the University of Illinois at Chicago, and a bachelor’s degree in biology from Loyola University Chicago. She has served as an adjunct instructor of biology at Pasadena City College, Marymount California University, Los Angeles Valley College, and Kennedy-King College and Roosevelt University, which are both in Illinois. She has also contributed to biology curriculum development at Pasadena City College and Marymount California University.

Carlos MaruriCarlos Maruri
General/Student Success Support counselor. Carlos Maruri earned a master’s degree in counseling and student development in higher education, and a bachelor’s degree in psychology from California State University, Long Beach. Prior to becoming an ECC Compton Center full-time faculty member, he was an adjunct counselor at El Camino College and ECC Compton Center. He also has experience as a MESA program specialist at El Camino College and contributed to the First Year Experience Program at ECC Compton Center.

Gary NarusawaGary Narusawa
Automotive Technology instructor. Gary Narusawa earned a bachelor’s degree in liberal arts with a minor in business administration from California State University, Fullerton. Prior to joining ECC Compton Center, he was an automotive teacher for Culver City High School’s Regional Occupational Program. He is an ASE certified automobile master technician with 30 years of experience customizing vehicles. He has also worked as an automotive editor at Source Interlink Media.

Brenda RichardsonBrenda Richardson
Nursing instructor. Brenda Richardson earned both a master’s degree and bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of Phoenix, and an associate degree in nursing from Chapman University. Prior to joining ECC Compton Center, she served as an adjunct instructor at National University, and assistant director of nursing at American Career College at St. Francis. She has also worked as a nurse at Children’s Hospital and St. Mary Medical Center, both in Long Beach, California; as well as the University of Irvine Medical Center, in Orange, California.
