The Accreditation Steering Committee (ASC) held its first meeting on October 25 following the submission of the names of the committee members by fellow ASC co-chairs Compton District CEO Lawrence Cox, Compton Center Faculty Council President Saul Panski and me,to Accreditation Liaison Officer (ALO) Francisco Arce, ECC VP, Academic Affairs.
In addition to the ALO and co-chairs, the ASC members are: Alisha Harrell, ASO student representative; Jo Ann Higdon, VP, Administrative Services; Andrew Krynicki, confidential/supervisory representative; Joseph Lewis, Classified Unit, CCCFE; Jeanie Nishime, VP, Student & Community Advancement; Estina Pratt, Vice President, Faculty Council; Rachelle Sasser, management representative; and faculty representatives Chelvi Subramanian and Pieter Van Niel.

CEO's Message
Dr. Lawrence M. Cox
The Compton Community College District recently had the opportunity to recognize former students who are of Japanese ancestry and were unable to receive their diplomas from the former Compton Junior College because of the unfortunate circumstances affecting them during World War II. To honor these students, the CCCD hosted a special graduation ceremony on October 16 where these former students received honorary degrees.
The initiative to locate and honor the Nisei students was in response to Assembly Member Warren Furutani’s (D-Long Beach) bill (AB 37) that called upon California colleges and universities to grant honorary degrees as part of the historic California Nisei College Diploma Project.
