On July 24, 2006, the El Camino Community College District Board of Trustees gave approval for El Camino College to proceed with negotiations for an agreement to provide educational and related support services to residents of the Compton Community College District.
In August 2006 the agreement was official and by the fall semester, Compton Community College began operating as an educational center of El Camino College.
The primary intent of the agreement is to assist the Compton campus with recovery and full accreditation as a two-year public college within the next five to eight years.
El Camino College provides accredited instructional and related support, in addition to administrative services to meet the needs of Compton students. El Camino College courses are taught at ECC Compton Center by Compton faculty.
By addressing all accreditation and legal requirements, El Camino College operates with the goal of bringing ECC Compton Center into good standing with the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC), with the understanding that the eventual separation of campus functions after full accreditation or completion of contractual obligations is the primary objective.
