Welcome to El Camino College Compton Community Educational Center, home of the Tartars. We'd like to encourage you on behalf of our outstanding Athletic Staff to inquire about the opportunities to participate in our intercollegiate athletic program. We offer ten sports, five for men and fivefor women, staffed with outstanding coaches whose main focus is on the success of their student-athletes.
Our women compete in the tough South Coast Conference in soccer, basketball, badminton, track & field, and softball. Our men also compete in the South Coast Conference in football, soccer, basketball, baseball, and track & field. We have a very competitive program as evidenced by last year's state playoff men's basketball team.
The mission of Tartar Athletics is to provide an equitable opportunity for all students to participate in Intercollegiate Athletics while succeeding in obtaining their academic or vocational goals. The Tartar Athletic Program asserts that athletic participation helps promote leadership development, time management skills, sportsmanship, positive role modeling, peer group interaction, determination, risk-taking and perseverance. The Athletic Department strongly endorses a comprehensive program that encourages the development of each student-athlete's values and character, and sees its activities as an integral part of campus life, and as a positive aspect of the overall educational experience for its participants.
Athletic Program Philosophy
The College Administration supports the need for encouraging the development of programs for the highly skilled student-athlete and will promote a variety of programs, support services, and activities which are necessary to meet the needs of these men and women.
It is the philosophy of the Compton Center to strive to maintain the optimum level of teaching and coaching, as well as support from the community, the Board of Trustees, the District, and the College administration, faculty, and students. The District will also strive to coordinate and control intercollegiate athletic competition so that the result will be compatible with the State Athletic Code, the South Coast Conference Constitution and By-Laws, and the highest standards of conduct. The Compton Center’s aim is for the experiences of all participants to reflect dignity and exemplify competition at its finest. The Compton Center operates with this basic philosophy of purpose to best accomplish and fulfill the goals of wholesome and desirable experiences for all participants and to offer the opportunity for students of the Center to reach their full athletic and academic potential.
