President/CEO Message

September 24, 2020

Campus Community,

As mentioned in the President/CEO Message - August 27, 2020, we set a goal of making a decision regarding the spring 2021 semester by Friday, September 25, 2020. And the decision has been made. Compton College spring 2021 classes will be online. However, some classes, including essential workforce training, cosmetology, chemistry, and intercollegiate athletics programs, may be provided in-person if approved by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health. As we prepare for spring 2021, Compton College will continue to review and monitor the State of California's Four-Tiered Risk Assessment System, the California Department of Public Health COVID-19 Industry Guidance: Institutions of Higher Education, and the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health Guidelines for Institutions of Higher Education.

The spring 2021 semester decision provides the vice presidents, deans, and division chairs with additional time to finalize the schedule of classes, which will be available online by Tuesday, November 10, 2020. Spring 2021 registration begins on Tuesday, December 1, 2020. As a reminder, our campus is telecommuting until further notice. More information on the winter and spring 2021 classes will be provided in future President/CEO Messages. The President/CEO Message - September 24, 2020, includes COVID-19 information and other campus-related updates.

Eight Compton College Faculty Members Achieve Tenure

On September 23, 2020, Compton College recognized the following faculty members who achieved tenure:

  • Stephen Ellis, B.S.
  • Minodora Moldoveanu, Ed.D.

Compton College looks forward to this group of faculty's input on campus committees, curriculum development, and on initiatives designed to improve student outcomes. We thank them for choosing Compton College and for joining a team that challenges our students to learn and grow, while also providing guidance and assistance during their academic journey. Compton College Facilities Update

As a follow-up to my meeting with the English Faculty on March 4, 2020, we are moving forward with a recommendation to the Compton Community College District Board of Trustees for a Construction Change Order for Instructional Building #1. The scope of work for the Instructional Building #1 Change Order includes installing a write-on surface on all exposed walls in the classrooms and computer labs. Most importantly, the write-on surfaces will be magnetic and projectable and will consist of a bottom rail to hold markers and erasers. The total cost for the Instructional Building #1 Change Order is $101,804.20.

In the 2021-2022 year, Compton College will hold three ribbon-cutting ceremonies. Below are the scheduled completion dates for the following construction projects:
